    Home to CLT10 Regional Scholars

    October 6, 2023

Carson & Cameron of Summit Classical Christian School have been named 2023 Regional Scholars by the Classic Learning Test for their outstanding performance on the CLT10, a college preparatory exam and PSAT® alternative. The Regional Scholar award recognizes ninth and tenth graders who scored in the top 5% of their geographic region on the CLT10 during the 2022-23 academic year. Out of thousands of students who take the CLT10 each year, this is an outstanding accomplishment.

Founded in 2015, Classic Learning Test offers assessments for Grades 3-12 and alternatives to exams like the SAT®, ACT®, and PSAT®. Its college entrance exam, the CLT, is accepted at over 250 colleges and universities across the U.S. and abroad. Recently, CLT made national headlines when the state of Florida approved the CLT as an accepted admissions test at all of its public universities.

  • Hello PSAT Test Takers and Parents!

If you are receiving this email, you have been registered for the PSAT on October 14th. Following is all the information you should need to prepare for test day.

The first and most important thing you need to know about this year's PSAT is that it is digital. You will be responsible for bringing your own computer. Here are some details:

Your computer must be able to hold about 3 hours of battery life. You need to arrive at the PSAT with your device fully charged, and you should plan on bringing your charger just in case. Charging will not be generally allowed during the test, but if for some unforeseen reason your battery drains faster than expected, it can be accommodated.

You will need to download Bluebook to the device that you will be using for the PSAT. Bluebook is the College Board software program they use to administer the test. This should be done as soon as possible to ensure that your device is up to date enough to run the program. In addition to this, once you download Bluebook, you will have access to more testing information including a practice guide and test. It is my recommendation that you spend a few minutes this weekend downloading Bluebook to the device that you are planning to bring to the PSAT with you. Dr. Cooper will be hunting you down next week to make sure that you have all downloaded this to your computers!

The second set of details you need to know are where to go and when:

You will be taking the PSAT at Bellevue Christian School, and you can enter the building at their main high school entrance. That address is 1701 98th Ave NE, Clyde Hill, WA 98004. The testing coordinator already has you listed on her roster, so they will be expecting you.

The doors will open to let you in at 7:45 am. Doors will be locked at 8:00 am and late students will not be admitted to the building.

The test should end around 11 am.

What else do you need to bring or not bring?

You must bring a Government issued ID with you. A learner's permit, driver's license, or passport counts. If you don't have one of these forms of ID, please notify myself or Dr. Cooper immediately.

You should bring a pencil or two with you for doing scratch work (paper will be provided).

You do not need to bring a calculator. The Bluebook program will have a calculator to use built into the test.

Further information about the PSAT, including a short video, can be found at https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt.

Please let myself or Dr. Cooper know if you have any questions!

May God bless your test taking!

    Mrs. Skinner

  • Happy October Upper School Students and Parents,

Academic Updates: In the interest of keeping you updated and aware, we will be sharing regular updates from the Academic and College Counseling Office. Please know that we are here for you and you can reach out anytime with any questions you may have. Additionally, we have added a new page to the website called “Academic Updates”, where you can find our email communications all in one spot if you are ever trying to find something that you know was sent out by one of us. Go to the “Academics” drop-down menu on our website, click on “Academics Updates” et voila!

Academic Advising: Our year began with each grade level meeting as a group for academic advising. Students were updated on the graduation requirements and how to keep track of required classes. Seniors met with Mrs. Davis for support and guidance to help navigate their senior year. Academic advising meetings will continue throughout October and November with the other grade levels.

College Visits/Fair/Info: We had a visit from Wheaton College last week and many students attended the Northwest Christian College Fair. Summit may have been the most represented area school that evening! If you missed it and are interested in seeing some of the schools that were represented, check the Counselors’ Corner just next to the Cafe at CCE. We have flyers from multiple colleges for you to preview, and will keep additional resources available here as well.

    Upcoming Test dates:

All 11th graders - PSAT test: Saturday, October 14th

CLT testing for 11th and 12th Graders - Wednesday, October 18th

Discerning God’s Calling: As we strive to cultivate generations of joyful disciples of Christ, rooted in truth, to the glory of God, we are continually encouraging students to self reflect and explore the unique gifts and talents God has given each of them. This is extremely important as students discern God’s calling on their lives, especially as they start to look towards what they will do after high school. Not all of our students will be called to college! We work with the students in many different ways on this topic at school. One time this happens at Summit is in the Health class. (Health is a 0.5 credit state graduation requirement, but at Summit, we teach this class from a Christ-centered worldview.) To that end, Mr. Talevera started the year with a Right/Left Brain Dominance Test, Personality Temperament Test, as well as other self assessments as tools for students to learn more about themselves. We’ve also encouraged our older students to access various resources including The College Board which offers similar tools. If your son/daughter is working through questions related to God’s calling on his/her life, whether in Health class or not, these tests/tools can be great conversation starters. We encourage you to talk with your son or daughter about these kinds of questions, pray with him or her and over him or her as they walk through these last few years before they graduate high school.

Student Service Hours: Service hours can now be updated directly on the Student Veracross Portal. As you login to your student portal, you will see a link in the lower right hand corner directing you to a form to log your hours. You may log up to five hours at a time, so as you go back and fill in summer hours, lump them together in five hour blocks, to save yourself time. For example, if you volunteered at church for two hours at a time, add up your hours and record them in blocks of five hours.

We are looking forward to continuing to partner with you throughout the year!

Your academic and college counseling team,

Kati Davis, Molly Skinner, & Cristi Cooper

  • Dear 11th Grade Families,

This email contains a lot of information on testing. Please read through carefully!

First, we are excited to announce that all Summit juniors will be registered to take the PSAT/NMSQT this fall! This exam is a practice SAT test, but also a qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program, a highly regarded academic competition for recognition and scholarships.

Bellevue Christian School has graciously offered to host our students at their campus on Saturday, October 14th. The test consists of reading, writing, and math portions and should take about 3 hours to complete. You can find more information about the PSAT HERE. Summit will pay for the test and it’s highly recommended that students take the test, but it’s not required. More specific details about the test day (such as arrival time, what to bring, etc.) will follow soon! Please let us know your plans for attendance by October 1st.

If you are considering taking an SAT or ACT test during this school year, you must register and pay for these tests online. You can select your test date and location when completing registration. Although these test scores may not be required for some college admissions, your scores may qualify you for scholarships at your schools of choice. Do your research and see if this may be a benefit to you!

In addition, Summit will also be offering the Classical Learning Test again this school year! The CLT is directly tied to some of the best scholarships at the schools our students apply to, and it does a great job of assessing what and how our students have learned. Additionally, it is easy and possible to give this test multiple times, so we have come up with a plan for CLT administration to be offered three times this year: October 18 (optional), February 15 (optional, but strongly recommended), April 24 (optional). The cost is $59, paid by the family. If you would like to take the October 18th test, please let us know by September 20th at the latest. If you might need testing accommodations, please let us know right away and we can find out what would be permissible for you.

Our apologies for the late notice on some of this information. As most of you know, I recently took over the Registrar position in August of this year and I truly appreciate your grace and understanding as I learn the ins and outs of this new job!

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact myself, Mrs. Skinner, at mollyskinner@summitclassical.org and Dr. Cooper at cristicooper@summitclassical.org.

    We are cheering you on!

    Your college prep team,

    Mrs. Skinner and Dr. Cooper

  • IteDear 12th Grade Families,
